“Discovering your purpose, realizing your potential, and recognizing your vision are the keys to fulfilling your destiny.”

Destry Wilborn has served as a veteran of the Chicago Police Department for over 20 years. His experience on the front lines of one of the most dangerous, yet diverse cities in the country gave him a perplexed feeling. Having being afforded the experience of observing the pain and sorrow that violence left behind, but feeling ill-equipped to address it, motivated Destry on a quest to seek the purpose for existence. It was during his time, while participating in the Dr. Myles Munroe Mentorship Program, that he began to discover many of the answers to the questions that plague each and every one of us.

Destry has been active in youth ministry at New Life Covenant Church, under the leadership of Pastor John Hannah for nearly a decade and has lead the Boys 2 Men component of the youth ministry, Identity. His love, compassion and spirit has driven him to mentor a countless number of teens, with his heart focused primarily on empowerment, inspiration and functionality of transforming young men into great men. Destry’s experiences and his unique perspective of crime and behaviors is what inspired him to create Men of Purpose, Journey to Self-Discovery. The objective of Men of Purpose, Journey to Self-Discovery (MOP) is to teach, motivate, and create a body of men that are not only self-sufficient; but who will also mentor to other young men entering and graduating the self-discovery program.

Destry has served on the board of directors as Vice President of Williams Youth Services INC. where the motto is “Every child deserves a second chance”. Destry also served as a wrestling coach in the Chicago Public Schools for ten years. It was in those early years that he began to understand that the absence of fathers in homes is the single greatest factor in what plagues most inner city communities. He has devoted his time to becoming a father to the fatherless. Many of the young men he coached in wrestling years ago are still “sons” of his and continue to seek his tutelage. Destry has been effective in transforming coaching into mentorship, and mentorship into discipleship. Destry believes that discovering your purpose, realizing your potential, and recognizing your vision are the keys to fulfilling your destiny.

Destry holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Sociology in Political Science from Lewis University in Romeoville Illinois and a Master’s degree in Public Safety Administration from Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting Indiana. Destry has been trained in apologetics and is a two time graduate of Frank Turek’s (CIA) Cross Examiners Instructors Academy and RZIM (EAP) Emerging Apologest Program.
